The 10 Best Coves in Alicante
(according to LinkAlicante)
–
1. Moraig Cove (Benitatxell)
Very close to Jávea/Xàbia, Cala del Moraig is characterized by the imposing cliffs that border it and the turquoise blue color of its waters. It tends to have a high occupancy in season and it is important to mention that you have to walk down a steep slope.
It is 100% worth paying the 12€/day parking fee to enjoy this paradisiacal place, a beautiful beach of sand, gravel and pebbles, which hides other treasures such as the Cova dels Arcs or the Falla del Moraig.
If you want to discover its incredible sea caves, book this kayak excursion.
2. El Bol Nou (Villajoyosa)
La Cala del Bol Nou is located on the outskirts of Villajoyosa in the direction of Alicante. It is a beautiful gravel beach surrounded by cliffs that give it an exotic beauty.
Its name is due to the fishing gear formerly used in this area, referring to the seafaring past of Villajoyosa. Right next to it you have the Paraíso Beach, also beautiful, bigger and with less occupation.
3. Portitxol Cove in Jávea/Xàbia
If we talk about beautiful coves in Alicante, Javea is the ideal destination (and the busiest). The Portitxol Cove or La Barraca is characterized by its beautiful bay surrounded by cliffs and guarded by the Illa del Portixol, which gives its name to the place.
Already frequented in Roman times, the idyllic beauty of this place has contributed to its fame and to the fact that it is currently somewhat overcrowded in season. If you want to visit it in summer, you will have to get up early to find parking. Another option is to book this excursion.
4. Granadella Cove (Xàbia)
We could not miss in this selection what many consider the most beautiful beach in Alicante. La Granadella has been the scene of Hollywood movies and has been awarded by different media as one of the ten best beaches in Spain in recent years.
It is a beautiful gravel beach, flanked by cliffs covered with a green mantle that combines perfectly with its turquoise waters. Very crowded in summer, you will have to get up early to find parking.
5. Calitas de Tabarca
The island of Tabarca is an essential place to visit in Alicante (although in summer you may find it too crowded). The crystal clear waters that surround it were declared a Marine Reserve in 1986, the first in Spain.
Tabarca allows us to swim and snorkel in waters full of biodiversity, with seabed upholstered with posidonia oceanica and rich in marine fauna. In Tabarca you have plenty of rocky coves, some crowded and others for you alone. Discover them here: what to see in Tabarca.
6. Racó del Conill (Villajoyosa)
Cala del Racó del Conill is located in the middle of an undeveloped natural area, 3 km from Villajoyosa. This tiny beach of naturist tradition (although very visited by textiles) has become very popular in recent summers, so you may prefer to visit it in May or October (my recommendation).
This beach has two different bathing areas, separated by a natural rock breakwater. In summer it has a beach bar, although at some distance from the shore. It is accessed by a paved road and has ample parking.
7. Baladrar Cove (Benissa)
The coast of Benissa, very close to Calpe, offers several beautiful coves. There is something for all tastes and colors. From Playa la Fustera, with fine sand and all amenities, to other more natural rocky and pebble coves, such as Baladrar Cove.
Something very cool about this area is that you can do a coastal route that passes through all these coves: the Ecological Path of Benissa, of easy difficulty (although with some ascents and descents by stairs).
8. Coves of Benidorm: Almadrava and Ti Ximo
On the outskirts of Benidorm, under the famous mountain cross, you can enjoy two small beaches of great beauty, with fine sand and surrounded by cliffs, ideal if you like to jump or snorkel. They are the coves of l‘Almadrava and Ti Ximo.
You will have to reach them on foot, as access by car is prohibited. You can also continue the route to an old watchtower. I tell you more here: Punta del Cavall route.
9. El Racó Cove (Calpe)
Located at the foot of the emblematic Peñón de Ifach (here I tell you how to climb), Calpe’s Cala del Racó is one of the best places on the Costa Blanca for snorkeling. In this somewhat secluded place next to the fishing port you will find a small gravel beach, pebbles and some sand. Ideal for walking and then eat in one of the restaurants in the area.
10. El Portet Cove in Moraira
El Portet Cove is a beach with turquoise waters reminiscent of the Caribbean. With fine sand and shallow depth, it is ideal for families with children. Here you can enjoy water activities and a good number of restaurants on the beach, with magnificent views. All this surrounded by a unique natural environment, presided over by the 16th century watchtower that dominates the bay from the Cap d’Or.
