10 Dog friendly beaches in Alicante province

1. Cabo Peñas Cove (Orihuela Costa)

This beautiful cove located in the shelter of Cabo Peñas, also known as “Cala Mosca II”, had long been used by dog lovers as an improvised dog beach out of season. This year 2021 the Orihuela Town Hall has decided to enable it permanently and throughout the year as the first canine beach of Orihuela, as we can read in this news of the newspaper “Diario Información”.

This is an area of great environmental value, being the last stretch of Orihuela’s coastline that remains undeveloped. We encourage you to read our article about Cala Mosca to learn more about this beautiful area.

2. Canina del Rocio Beach (Torrevieja)

The canine beach Rocío del Mar (Torrevieja) is a small beach of sand and rocks, located about 4 kilometers south of the town, very close to the beach bar-restaurant Nautilus.

This canine beach replaces, from 2020, the old dog friendly areas on the coast of Torrevieja. This cove is located near Cala Ferris, one of our favorite coves in the province and, likewise, is located in an undeveloped area that alternates sand with rocks, with a dirt road ideal for walking with our pets.

3. La Caleta dels Gosets (Santa Pola)

At the Cape of Santa Pola, under the famous viewpoint of the lighthouse, we find a coastal strip of about 3.5 kilometers formed by small sandy coves that emerge between rocky stretches. At the foot of the imposing cliffs of the cape, on whose slopes grow pine trees and Mediterranean vegetation, one of these coves, called Caleta dels Gossets, was enabled by the City Council of Santa Pola as a canine beach. In fact, this is one of the best rated dog-friendly beaches in the province of Alicante.

4. Agua Amarga dog beach (Alicante)

The city of Alicante, capital of the province, also has a dog-friendly beach: we are talking about the Agua Amarga beach, about 250 meters long and fine sand, located south of the municipality, between the city itself and Urbanova beach.

This beach is located very close to a natural area of great ecological value: the Saladar de Agua Amarga, and has a cleaning service adapted for dogs and a “pipican” area for greater comfort.

5. Punta del Riu beach (El Campello)

Between the well-known beaches of San Juan – Muchavista and Platja Carrer la Mar (promenade of El Campello) we find this semi-natural beach of sand – gravel that is located at the mouth of the Rio Seco, a very beautiful area with great ecological value. Nearby, on the other side of the avenue, we can find a Can Park.

More information on the tourism website of El Campello.

6. Beach of Barranc de Aigües (El Campello)

This beautiful beach of large boulders and practically natural state is located north of the municipality of El Campello, at the mouth of the ravine that gives it its name and at the foot of the Torre de Reixes, a watchtower of the sixteenth century built to protect the population from pirate attacks, frequent at that time.

More information about this beach in the tourism website of El Campello:

7. The Xarco Cove (La Vila Joiosa)

Located about 4 kilometers south of the town of La Vila Joiosa, Cala del Xarco is one of the most beautiful coves in the province of Alicante. Something that could change drastically if a “remodeling” project is carried out by the Ajuntament de la Vila Joiosa and that could alter forever the appearance of this beautiful cove.

The beach is divided into two areas, being the can beach the area closest to the watchtower of the sixteenth century, a cultural heritage of incalculable value. The Ajuntament de la Vila Joiosa does not have specific information for this beach can, so we encourage you to consult our article on the Cala del Xarco:

8. Platja de l’Olla (Altea)

Platja de l’Olla, north of the town of Altea, is a beautiful pebble beach that is located in front of the islet known as Illeta de l’Olla, which can be reached by swimming or kayaking. Platja de l’Olla is a fairly large beach, about a kilometer and a half, within which a section has been enabled for dogs, although it is not exclusively for pets.

Specifically, the dog-friendly beach of Altea is located a little north of the beach bar “El Arrecife” (at the height of Villa Gadea), before the marina “Porto Senso”, so we are talking about more than 300 meters of beach. It is a pebble beach, quite comfortable for pets and owners. You will find indications with the enabled section and the rules of use of the canine beach.

9. Les Urques Cove (Calp/Calpe)

Cala Les Urques, Calpe

In the southern part of the municipality of Calp/Calpe, Cala Les Urques is a beautiful rocky cove that remains in a practically natural state (although besieged, once again, by urbanism without measure). In my opinion, it is one of the most beautiful coves in Alicante, although being a pebble beach, it may not be to the taste of all people and their pets.

Cala Les Urques is located near the abandoned marina “Puerto Blanco”, although we recommend access from the urbanization, down a steep staircase (before you have to climb a section of the road of the urbanization).

Soon we will dedicate an article to this beautiful cove, do not forget to save this post in your favorites.

10. North Breakwater (Dénia)

Located in the far north of the province of Alicante, Denia is one of the most charming towns in Alicante. Sheltered by the Montgó Natural Park, this beautiful and touristic town, unfortunately, does not have a beach for dogs that lives up to what is expected of such a destination.

The canine beach that the city council has enabled is a small stretch with sand that is located on the south side of the Escollera Norte of the port of Denia. The truth is that the opinions of the users of this beach are not very good, as they usually complain about the bad smell.
